Biomedical Effects and Toxicity

【Biomedical Effects and Toxicity】
In a metabolism study, kresoxim-methyl was admin to rats as single gavage doses or 50 or 500 mg/kg or 15-day repeated doses of 50 mg/kg, or as a single iv dose of 5 mg/kg/day. Radiolabeled test compound was included in one 500 mg/kg dose group to facilitate metabolite identification. Biliary metabolites were assessed in rats with cannulated bile ducts given an oral dose of 50 or 500 mg/kg/day. Orally admin test compound was widely distributed & quickly eliminated. Results indicated there was no bioaccumulation. In both sexes, the major routes of excretion were feces & the urine. No radioactivity was detected in exhaled air. A total of 32 different metabolites were identified in the urine, feces, bile, plasma, liver, & kidneys of rats. There were some sex, dose, route, & label-dependent differences in the metabolite profiles.

Environmental Fate and Exposure Potential

【Environmental Fate/Exposure Summary】
TERRESTRIAL FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), an estimated Koc value of 1,700(SRC), determined from a log Kow of 3.40(2) and a regression-derived equation(3), indicates that kresoxim-methyl is expected to have low mobility in soil(SRC). Volatilization of kresoxim-methyl from moist soil surfaces is not expected to be an important fate process(SRC) given an estimated Henry's Law constant of 1.7X10-8 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), derived from its vapor pressure, 1.72X10-8 mm Hg(2), and water solubility, 2.00 mg/l(2). Kresoxim-methyl is not expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces(SRC) based upon its vapor pressure(2). Kresoxim-methyl biodegrades very rapidly in soil under aerobic conditions with a half-life of less than 1 day(4). Kresoxim-methyl biodegrades very rapidly in flooded soil under anaerobic conditions with a half-life of 1.1 days(4).
AQUATIC FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), an estimated Koc value of 1,700(SRC), determined from a log Kow of 3.40(2) and a regression-derived equation(3), indicates that kresoxim-methyl is expected to adsorb to suspended solids and sediment(SRC). Volatilization from water surfaces is not expected(SRC) based upon an estimated Henry's Law constant of 3.6X10-9 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), derived from its vapor pressure, 1.72X10-8 mm Hg(2), and water solubility, 2 mg/l(2). According to a classification scheme(4), an estimated BCF of 80(SRC), from its log Kow of 3.40(2) and a regression-derived equation(5), suggests the potential for bioconcentration in aquatic organisms is moderate(SRC). Kresoxim-methyl biodegrades very rapidly under aerobic aquatic metabolism conditions with a half-life of 1.2 days(6). Kresoxim-methyl biodegrades very rapidly in flooded soil under anaerobic conditions with a half-life of 1.1 days(6). Kresoxim-methyl is very stable to chemical hydrolysis at pH 5, and relatively stable at pH 7 where the half-life is 34 days(6); it becomes more susceptible to hydrolysis at pH 9 where the half-life is 7 hrs(6).
ATMOSPHERIC FATE: According to a model of gas/particle partitioning of semivolatile organic compounds in the atmosphere(1), kresoxim-methyl, which has a vapor pressure of 1.72X10-8 mm Hg at 20 deg C(2), is expected to exist solely in the particulate phase in the ambient atmosphere(SRC). Particulate-phase kresoxim-methyl may be removed from the air by wet and dry deposition(SRC).
